The Qur’an (Arabic: القرآن al-qur’ān, literally "the recitation"; also sometimes transliterated as Qur’ān, Koran, Alcoran or Al-Qur’ān) is the central religious text of Islam. Muslims believe the Qur’an to be the book of divine guidance and direction for mankind, and consider the original Arabic text to be the final revelation of God.
|
"With it, GOD
guides those who seek His approval. He guides them to the paths of
peace, leads them out of darkness into the light by His leave, and
guides them in a straight path."
(Qur'an 5:16)
|
Islam holds that the Qur’an was revealed to Muhammad by the angel
Gibraele (Gabriel) over a period of 23 years. Muslims regard the Qur’an
as the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with
those revealed to Adam, regarded in Islam as the first prophet, and
continued with the Suhuf-i-Ibrahim (Scrolls of Abraham),the Tawrat
(Torah), the Zabur (Psalms), and the Injeel (Gospel). The aforementioned books are not explicitly included in the Qur’an, but are recognized therein. The Qur’an also refers[18] to many events from Jewish and Christian scriptures, some of which are retold in comparatively distinctive ways from the Bible and the Torah, while obliquely referring to other events described explicitly in those texts. The Qur’an is the final Book of Allah sent with His final Messenger. Like the books that came before it, it is Allah's infallible word . |
"It is evident to those who
are blessed with knowledge that this revelation from your Lord to
you is the truth, and that it guides to the path of the Almighty,
the Most Praiseworthy."
(Qur'an 34:6)
|
The Qur’an, though, is unique in a number of ways. Allah has preserved it from corruption. None of the other revealed books have reached us in their pure form. Some of them, like the scrolls that were revealed to Abraham, have not reached us at all.
|
"Alif Laam Raa. A book
which we have revealed to you (Muhammad) so that you may lead the
people from out of the darkness into the light by their Lord's leave
to the path of the All-Mighty, the Praiseworthy." (Qur'an 14:1)"
|
The reason that these former books were corrupted is that Allah had entrusted
the people with their preservation, and people, over the course of time,
corrupted the scriptures for worldly gain.
Allah did not allow this to happen to the Qur’an, since it is the final book for all of humanity until the Day of Judgment. No new prophet is going to be sent. If the Qur’an became corrupted, Allah's Message would be lost to humanity for all time. For this reason, Allah did not entrust human beings with preserving the Qur’an. Allah took its preservation upon Himself. Allah ordained that to preserve it Mohammed's (pbuh) followers should memorise it. To this day the Qur'an has been memorised by millions of Muslims. All 6626 verses. Today in every mosque you will find children that can recite the whole Qur'an by heart. |
Miracles of the Qur'an |
Divine preservation of the earlier scriptures was not as critical, because Allah continued to send Prophets and Messengers to the people. Whenever they deviated from the truth, Allah would send another Prophet to call them back to it. Also, the Law as embodied in these older scriptures was not its final form. It was subject to change whenever Allah sent a new Messenger with another manifestation of the Law. This happened more than once. Jesus (pbuh) came with modifications to the Law, making lawful some things that had been previously been unlawful.

Qur'an the word of God |
Another unique quality of the Qur’an is that it is a miracle in and of itself. A miracle is a phenomenon that goes against the natural order of things and clearly shows the direct action of Allah Almighty. All the Prophets and Messengers came with miracles that clearly demonstrated the truthfulness of their claim to prophethood. Abraham (pbuh) survived being thrown into a blazing fire without being harmed. Moses (pbuh) raised his staff and the Red Sea parted for him. Jesus (pbuh) would touch the dead and the terminally ill and they would be restored to full health by the grace of Allah. All of these miracles showed the truthfulness of the ones who came with them, but these miracles were only witnessed by the people who were actually there at that time. |
"Why
do they not study the Qur'an carefully? If it were from other than
GOD, they would have found in it numerous contradictions."
(Qur'an 4:82) |
The miracle for the final Messenger should be available for all time. This miracle is the Qur’an. Allah, in the Qur’an, challenges the unbelievers to produce one chapter like it. This has never been accomplished. The Qur’an is a literary miracle. It is the pinnacle of literary excellence. It is the most eloquent Arabic prose in existence. It has a style like no other work in the Arabic language, a style that is inimitable.
