Yusuf Estes was brought up in Texas in a Protestant Christian family; as members of the Disciples of Christ, and was known then as "Skip Estes".

Between 1962 to 1990, he had a career in the music industry, entertainment, marketing, music instructor and music minister and owned several musical instrument companies including the 'Estes Piano and Organ Company', which he ran with his father. He produced and directed live entertainment programs throughout the United States from the mid 1960's until his last endeavor for cable TV in Florida, entitled 'Estes Music Jamboree'.

In 1991, Estes had business dealings with a Muslim named Mohammed, from Egypt, introduced to him by his father. Although initially reluctant to work with the man, he was persuaded by his father to do so. He saw it as an opportunity to convert this new associate to Christianity. Mohammad told Estes that "if he could prove his religion was better than Islam", he would readily accept it. The opposite took place, and during his attempts to bring Mohammed over to becoming a Christian, Estes learned about the religion of Islam firsthand and thereafter converted to Islam.

At present he is the National Muslim Chaplain for American Muslims, sponsored by a number of organizations in Washington, DC and delegate to the United Nations Peace Summit for Religious Leaders.  He has travelled around the entire world lecturing and sharing the message of the Christ of the Qur'an in Islam.  He hold dialogs and discussion groups with all faiths and enjoy the opportunity to work alongside of rabbis, ministers, preachers and priests everywhere. Most of the work is in the institutional area, military, universities and prisons. • Primarily his goal is to educate and communicate the correct message of Islam and who the Muslims really are.  Although Islam has grown now to tie Christianity as the largest of religions on earth, he see many of those who claim Islam as Muslims, that do not correctly understand nor properly represent the message of "Peace, Surrender and Obedience to God" (Arabic = 'Islam').  Chaplain Estes is well known around the Muslim world for his efforts in bringing many new people to Islam. His articles on Islam in modern times, along with his work online with other Internet websites.

Since 2005, Yusuf Estes has been regularly appearing on IslamChannel in the UK, as well as Peace TV and on Al-Huda TelevisionV which are 24/7 Islamic channels broadcasting in most freely internet-unblocked countries around the globe, via satellite and Islamic websites.
