Across the Internet there are 100s of websites dedicated to attacking Islam, the Holy Qur'an and the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), misunderstanding the Islamic way of life, the scripture and the life of the Prophet's (pbuh).  In most cases these attacks have been taken out of context and no effort has been taken to understand the society in which the Qur'an was revealed and the Prophet (pbuh) lived or in what situation the verses were revealed as the Holy Qur'an was revealed as the need arose and not all in one go.

This page has been created for the benefit of people who may have come across these sites and want answers to some of the allegations they may have read.

The Qur'an a book of Religious Intolerance?

'and kill them wherever you find them...' This is the most common verse used to attack the Qur'an and Muslims. It is misquoted both by non-Muslims attacking Islam as well as Muslim extremist to justify their actions and for recruitment.

Any person or website only quoting the line in isolation surly cannot be trusted as the verses before and after show a complete different story:

Excellent extracts from the US series Sleeper Cell.

Another common Quranic verse that is used to attack Islam is: 'Wherever you find a Kafir you kill them' Qur'an Al Tawbah Ch.9 V.5.  The word Kafir is the Arabic word for non-believer (of Islam) and is by no means a derogatory term.  Listen the following short explanation by Dr Zakir Naik:

Many websites also state that the Qur'an states:  'don't take Jews and Christians as friends' and show Muslims not wanting to integrate in to society.  See following response by Yusuf Estes

Jihad: Islamic Holy War?

The term Jihad contrary to common belief does not mean an Islamic Holy War.  It is often falsely referred to as a Holy war all over the Internet and media.  Jihad is simply the process of "exerting the best efforts," involving some form of "struggle" and "resistance," to achieve a particular goal. In other words, jihad is the struggle against, or resistance to, something for the sake of a goal. The meaning of the word is independent of the nature of the invested efforts or the sought goal.  Learn more about Jihad and it's Quranic context at http://www.quranicstudies.com/louay-fatoohi/jihad/the-meaning-of-jihad.html.

Many sites propagate that Islam does not tolerate the existence of other religions present in the world.  The following article discusses the foundations that the Prophet (pbuh) himself laid in dealing with people of other faiths, with particular examples from his life time and the tolerance he showed towards other religions. The following article shows proof of the Prophets (pbuh) towards non-Muslims, even those who sought to kill him and opposed his mission throughout his life: The Forgiveness of Muhammad Shown to Non-Muslims

Following are quotes taken from the Holy Qur'an

“God commands justice and fair dealing...” (Quran 16:90)

“O you who believe, be upright for God, and (be) bearers of witness with justice!...” (Quran 5:8)

“We sent Our Messengers with clear signs and sent down with them the Book and the Measure in order to establish justice among the people…” (Quran 57:25)

"O ye who believe! Do not squander one another's wealth in vanities, but let there be amongst you traffic and trade by mutual good will." (Qur'an:4:29)

“O you who believe!  Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even if it be against yourselves, your parents, and your relatives, or whether it is against the rich or the poor...” (Quran 4:135)

“Let not the hatred of a people swerve you away from justice.  Be just, for this is closest to righteousness…” (Quran 5:8)

"God does not forbid you to be kind and equitable to those who have neither fought against your faith nor driven you out of your homes. In fact God loves the equitable." (Qur'an:60:8)

"And in their (the earlier prophets) footsteps We sent Jesus the son o Mary, confirming the law that had come before him. We sent him the Gospel, therein was guidance and light and confirmation of the law that had come before him, a guidance and an admonition to those who fear God." (Qur'an:5:46)

"Whoever recommends and helps a good cause becomes a partner therein, and whoever recommends and helps an evil cause shares in its burdens" (Qur'an:4:85)

"Be quick in the race for forgiveness from your Lord, and for a Garden (paradise) whose width is that of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous - Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity or in adversity, who restrain (their) anger and pardon (all) men - for God loves those who do good." (Qur'an:3:133-134)

"Whoever works righteousness, man or woman, and has faith, verily, to them will We give a new Life, a life that is good and pure, and We will bestow on such their reward according to the best of their actions." (Qur'an:16:97)

"The parable of those who spend their wealth in the way of God is that of a grain that sprouts into seven ears, each bearing one hundred grains. God gives manifold increase to whom He wishes. God has boundless knowledge. Those who spend their wealth in the cause of God, and do not follow their charity with reminders of their generosity or injure the feeling of the recipient, shall get their reward from their Lord; they shall have nothing to fear or to regret.

Kind words and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury." (Qur'an:2:261-263)

"Those who believed and led a righteous life are the best creatures." (Qur'an:98:7)

"GOD commands you to give back anything the people have entrusted to you. If you judge among the people, you shall judge equitably. The best enlightenment indeed is what GOD recommends for you. GOD is Hearer, Seer." (Qur'an 4:87)

"If you do judge, judge between them justly. God loves the just." (Our'an: 5:42)

"Those who suppress their anger, and forgive other people – assuredly, Allah loves those who do good." (Qur'an 3:134)

These few quotes have been chosen to counter argue the allegation that the Holy Qur'an is a book of religious intolerance and hatred.  Confirm for yourself by reading the Holy Qur'an.

Allegations against Mohammed (pbuh)?
